Congratulations...

Well done team! We did very well and managed to get past the semi-semi-final (or the quarter final)! Thanks to James for his posters, Harry for his posters and summary text, Mark for setting up the blog (even though I have made more posts) and thanks to me for the presentation, the video and the rest of the blog.
Hopefully we'll make it to the regional competition and then maybe we'll win and become a cewebrities (yes: it is supposed to a "w").
I'm going to put the MacBook Air spoof video here and shortly I shall be posting the other advert. It uses the same song that was used on the iMac advert but I have not filmed a rotating Fairtrade cereal bar box, mainly because I didn't have one and I didn't want to have to steady my hand for a very long period of about 39 seconds.
A final congratulations and good luck in the semi-final! (NB: the presentation has been improved)
Thanks again!

"I'm a new soul....!"

So, what is FairTrade?

"Fair trade is an organized social movement and market-based approach to alleviating global poverty and promoting sustainability. The movement promotes the payment of a fair price as well as social and environmental standards in areas related to the production of a wide variety of goods. It focuses in particular on exports from developing countries to developed countries, most notably handicraftscoffeecocoasugarteabananashoneycottonwine, fresh fruit, and so on.

Fair trade's strategic intent is to deliberately work with marginalised producers and workers in order to help them move from a position of vulnerability to security and economic self-sufficiency. It also aims at empowering them to become stakeholders in their own organizations and actively play a wider role in the global arena to achieve greater equity ininternational trade.

Fair trade proponents include a wide array of international religious, development aid, social and environmental organizations such as OxfamAmnesty International, and Caritas International.

Like most developmental efforts, fair trade has proven itself controversial and has drawn criticism from both ends of the political spectrum. Some economists and conservative think tanks see fair trade as a type of subsidy. Segments of theleft criticize fair trade for not adequately challenging the current trading system."
